Winemaker Dennis Gross, with wife Kathy have been making
wine from their Olympic Peninsula home for over 30 years, just
for fun. It wasn’t until 1998 that Dennis, a Chemistry teacher, would
begin to turn his hobby into something, serious. Sovereign Cellars, is
named after the "Sovereign", a 40 foot wooden sailboat that the family
had for 12 years. The boat was beautiful and elegant, just like the
wines they would be creating.
Sovereign Cellars produces between 125 and 150 cases annually with grapes from all over Washington State including Alder Creek (Horse Heaven Hills), The Kiona Vineyard and throughout the Red Mountain, and Columbia Valley.
Look for Sovereign to continue to produce great reds, mostly because they are Dennis's favorites.
